Nagesh Kukunoor keen to screen 'Dhanak' for Shah Rukh Khan

Nagesh Kukunoor keen to screen 'Dhanak' for Shah Rukh Khan
By: PTI | Last Updated: Thursday, 19 May 2016 1:41 PM
Mumbai: Director Nagesh Kukunoor says he wants to hold a special screening of his upcoming film “Dhanak” for superstar Shah Rukh Khan.

The film chronicles the story of Pari, who promises her little blind brother Chotu that she will help get his eyesight back before he turns 9-year-old. When she spots her favourite star Shah Rukh on the poster for an eye-donation drive, she is convinced her hero will help her in the mission.

“I am hoping to screen the film for Shah Rukh sometime this month. No dates have been confirmed yet but I am trying, let’s see,” Nagesh told PTI.

“Dhanak” was earlier scheduled to release on June 10, but will now hit the screens on June 17. The “Iqbal” director said he wants to ensure that the film gets a good exposure in cinema halls.

“We have locked and finalised June 17 as the release date. When it is a small film, there is always some jostling happening. We want our film to get the best shows and enjoy good screens. So, we decided on the date,” he said.

The film will now clash with “Udta Punjab”, which stars Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Alia Bhatt.

Nagesh said both the films have their audience, who will come to watch the movies irrespective of the clash.

“Today the longevity of a film is restricted to one week. ‘Udta Punjab’ is a large film and I don’t think it will have a bearing on ‘Dhanak’. The audience of ‘Udta Punjab’ will go for that film and audience will hopefully come to watch our film as well. There is no encroachment,” he said.

“Dhanak” stars child actors Hetal Gadda, Krrish Chhabria among others.

Flashback Friday:When Shah Rukh Khan @IAMSRK and Amitabh Bachchan @SrBachchan Clashed on the big Stage

May 18th, 2016 | Author: srkonlineteam

In the year 2015, superstar Salman Khan said that Shah Rukh Khan’s film Raees may  clash with his film Sultan next Eid but, SRK has nothing to worry about as he has a hundred per cent record against Salman. Well Salman quoted this on the basis of two of his films (Jaan-E-Mann & ‘Saawariya’ clashing with ‘Don and  Om Shanti Om) which fared badly over the box-office. Fans of both these superstars were totally excited over the clash of Raees and Sultan, but as per the latest news Raees has been postponed and the clash has been avoided. Many trade experts feel that Eid has been the Salman’s forte. As such, the clash had to be avoided. Few of them also feel that the clash of SRK’s Dilwale (2015) with Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani (2015) might be the key point over the postponement of Raees, as the latter won hands down. All this is not new for Shahrukh Khan and his fans as, the Badshah Khan’s films have clashed with many other actors’ films.

In most of these clashes his movies emerged out as the winner but, then there were times when his films faced tough competition too, (‘KuchKuchHotaHai’ v/s ‘Bade MiyanChoteMiyan’, ‘Mohabbatein’ v/s ‘Mission Kashmir’, ‘Veer Zara’ v/s ‘Aitraaz’, ‘Jab TakHaiJaan’ v/s ‘Son of Sardar’, etc). Few of trade experts feel that media and SRK’s fans love such clashes which have been happening right from his first released film Deewana(1992) followed by Chamatkar (1992) days where these movies smashed the films released around that time (Jagruti & Honeymoon). All these clashes are related to Shahrukh Khan’s movies but, then there was one such big clash which happened with his stage show and that too opposite the megastar, Amitabh Bachchan.

In the year 1994, megastar Amitabh Bachchan had announced his temporary retirement after the release of Khuda Gawah (1992) and Shah Rukh Khan was riding high with the massive success of his films like Deewana’(1992), Baazigar (1993) and Darr (1993). The media was supporting every success of SRK and had termed him  the big superstar of the future. Articles were written comparing SRK’s career with other Khans and even Amitabh Bachchan. The summer of 1994 witnessed many stars having their stage shows in foreign countries. Amitabh Bachchan and his team including music directors Kalyanji-Anandji were known for their fantastic stage shows and concerts all over the globe. Following their routine, Amitabh Bachchan’s next big show was to be held in New York. The whole event was grand and had many top actors from Hindi film industry taking part in it. The ticket rates were  high and there was tremendous  curiosity surrounding this show.

At that moment a fresh announcement came about Shah Rukh Khan’s stage show happening on the same day in the same city. This created a dilemma  for the fans and as well as the Asians residing in that part of the country. Both the shows looked great and were promoted with hit songs of Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan all over the local radio stations and the communitymagazines. While Amitabh Bachchan had his all-time great hit songs including the latest one Jumma Chumma from Hum (1991) to cash in. Shah Rukh was also in the race with his latest chart toppers like Yeh Kaali Kaali Aakhen from Baazigar  (1993),  Jadu Teri Nazar  from Darr (1993), Badi Mushkil Hai  from Anjaam and few more. In the initial stage everyone thought that it was a suicidal attempt for Shahrukh, but as time passed by, the response to his show was equally good. This positive response added fuel to this clash as the media started drawing comparisons between the retired superstar and the emerging one. Finally, the D-day came and both shows took place on the same day in the same city. No one knew which show performed better over the other. The flames of this clash had reached India and the media out here was equally excited to know which show emerged as the winner.

Shah Rukh Khan’s show was organized by Morani brothers and one of their spoke person gave a statement that, their show in New York created a history by witnessing a record breaking number of people attending the show. The entire crowd was roaring with ‘Shah Rukh..Shah Rukh’ chants. The venue was overcrowded and was a super hit show. This statement was clear enough to state that Shahrukh’s show overpowered Amitabh Bachchan’s show but, before one could reach to any conclusion the final statement came from Ramesh Shah, son of Anandji(Amitabh Bachchan’s show was organized by music director Kalyanji-Anandji and was managed by Ramesh Shah). Ramesh replied back over the Morani’sclaim that despite of the Morani group trying to influence the radio media in New York and giving negative statements over Amitabh Bachchan’s show, it did not hamper the impact of Amitabh Bachchan. He stated that more than one fourth of the tickets for Shahrukh Khan’s show, were distributed for free over the radio promotions. He also agreed over the fact that Shahrukh Khan’s show did witness huge crowd but it was never the largest nor the highest to the crowd witnessed at Amitabh Bachchan’s show. Amitabh Bachchan’s show was in a larger venue than Shahrukh’s show and the ticket were priced almost double of the latter’s show. Despite of the high rates, their show was housefull and there was a huge crowd outside their venue of all those people who did not get tickets for the Amitabh Bachchan’s show. He ended his statement by saying that he had heard from his sources that many of the investors of Shahrukh Khan’s show failed to recover their basic cost and if Morani’s wanted, he could produce more details over this to the Indian media.

Kalyanji-Anandji at that time were big names in the film industry and were known for their international shows and concerts. This statement from their camp was enough for the media to accept it as the final declaration and also the fact that there were no further statements from the Morani’s group. Both, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan maintained their silence as they knew it was the media and the organizers who wanted to cash-in over this clash.

Fun Facts –

Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan clashed back again in the year 1998 with ‘KuchKuchHotaHai’ and ‘Bade MiyanChote Miya’. Time had changed and it was Shahrukh starrer which won by a huge margin over the box-office. ‘Bade MiyanChote Miya’ though ended up at number two slot from the films released in that year.

Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan could have been seen inRakeshRoshan’s ‘Kind Uncle’ (1993), as the director had planned the film keeping Amitabh Bachchan in mind. He also got the songs recorded by SudeshBhosle who was known as the voice of Amitabh Bachchan in that era. Sadly, things did not work out and Jackie replaced Amitabh Bachchan.

Amitabh Bachchan did a concert in London in the year 1990 at the Wembley Stadium. This was the first one of its kind of show where an Indian show was organized on the international level matching up to their standards. This massive show was filmed and was released in cinema halls next year as ‘JummaChumma in London’ (1991). The three hour footage featured performances of many actors like Sridevi, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Neelam, AnupamKher along with Amitabh Bachchan. ‘JummaChumma in London’ created history as never before any stage show or a concert managed to get such big all over India theatrical release.

Why a German teenager in Stuttgart is Shah Rukh Khan’s diehard fan.

WRITTEN BY SUNAINA KUMAR | MUMBAI |
UPDATED: MAY 15, 2016 10:38 AM

Rene Lazar was nine years old when his life took a turn — his mother brought home a DVD of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. They were instantly hooked, and afterwards, they procured as many movies of Shah Rukh Khan as they could find. The Lazars live in Stuttgart, famous for being the headquarters for Porsche and Mercedes, where it’s easier to get a car than a Bollywood film. When he was 11, Rene starred in his first fan video produced by his parents. The grainy footage shows a plump-cheeked boy with curly hair wearing an oversized shirt, matching steps with Khan to Dard-e-Disco. A year later, his mother passed away after a long battle with cancer. His father brought up Rene and his younger brother by himself. “Wasn’t it Shah Rukh who said, ‘We live once, we die once, we get married once, and love, that also happens once in a lifetime,’” quotes Branko, his father, without a trace of irony.
Rene is now 19, and works as an industrial management assistant with Mercedes-Benz. That is his life from Monday to Friday. Over the weekend, he immerses himself in Hindi movies and impersonating Shah Rukh Khan in fan videos. He has made three videos since 2014, and is working on two more, and with each subsequent video, his fame has also grown. He was featured in a publicity video for the release of Khan’s latest movie, Fan. He was also interviewed in Ishq, a German magazine targeted at Bollywood fans.

The relationship between stars and fans can often seem inexplicable — why do fans line up for hours outside the homes of stars, start religions after them, dedicate their lives to them? The story of Rene Lazar provides a clue. It is the story of a family that filled up a loss by finding hope in the movies and specifically in one man. “After my mother passed away, we grew closer watching Bollywood movies. Shah Rukh inspires me, makes me happy. I make these videos to show my love to him,” says Rene. However, though he loved watching Fan, Khan’s latest film, he could not identify with the character of Gaurav. “I could never be like that. Shah Rukh has his life, I have my own.”
When we meet at the city centre of Stuttgart, Rene slowly spreads his arms wide open and looks intensely in the distance. It elicits a Pavlovian response from those who are familiar with Shah Rukh Khan’s signature move, his all-encompassing hug to the world, the love he sends to all his fans.
It’s a Friday evening. Rene and his father have a copy of the DVD for Dilwale, which has released that very day in Germany. They will watch the movie and scout for a location for Mitwa (from Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna), the next video that the father-son team is producing, over the weekend. Rene has already heard the song more than a thousand times, and watched the videos repeatedly to learn the dance steps. It takes months of planning and practice to produce each video and the Lazars concentrate on the smallest of details.
srk pose 759
It was the video for Kal Ho Naa Ho that drew attention to Rene. Dressed in an all-white ensemble (like Khan in the original), the video was shot in locations around Stuttgart and their family home in Croatia. His last video, Challa (from Jab Tak Hain Jaan), has nearly 20,000 hits on YouTube.
Father and son are quick to dispel the notion that they have taken their fandom too far. “We have real jobs in our real lives. But this makes us forget the real world. It makes us feel good,” says Rene. He asserts his right to be taken seriously: “Don’t laugh at me. This is hard work.” In the “real life” he mentions, his father works as a private investigator. They have no interest in German cinema, which is too real for them. At home, they have a collection of 300 DVDs of Bollywood and have recently invested in a steadicam, a crane and a drone to shoot their videos.
Shah Rukh Khan’s global fandom has been a subject of academic research around the world. His fan clubs and online communities flourish in places as diverse as Peru to Romania, not to mention, most parts of Asia, the Middle East and quite a few Western countries.
Susanne Marschall, professor of media studies at the University of Tubingen, explains how Germany discovered Shah Rukh Khan. “It started in 2003, when Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was screened on a local TV channel. From then until 2008, the interest in popular Hindi cinema peaked and it was through the movies of Shah Rukh. The fact that emotions are so directly expressed in these movies makes them appealing to Germans. He is interesting because he plays characters who can reflect on tradition, break rules, but who is a good guy, a romantic hero,” she says. Fans in Germany are extraordinarily hybrid, she points out. “On the one hand, there are cineastes, who are interested in movies from all countries. There are people from migrant communities, like the Turks, and there is also the queer community that loves these movies for the colour and heightened emotion.”
The timeline she mentions is interesting, as it coincides with the rise of multiplex cinemas in India and movies that are less populist and more independent. While Indians are proud of this change, global fans of Bollywood are less taken in. “Where is the emotion? Where are the family problems, the culture and the tradition? They look more and more like Hollywood films,” says Rene. The only Hindi word he knows, apart from the titles of Khan’s movies, is ‘dil’. Where is the dil, he asks?
Rene and Branko have planned a trip to India at the end of the year. Rene wants to be an actor in Bollywood. If he happens to meet Khan, what will he say to him? “If I stand in front of him, I will be speechless. I will pinch myself and ask, is this real? But then I will say to him, thank you Mr Khan for all the good movies. Thank you for the inspiration,” he says.

Baba Ram Rahim following Shahrukh Khan ?

MAY 12TH, 2016

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is getting set to entertain people with his next venture , ‘Online Gurukul’.  Sources in Bollywood say that ‘Online Gurukul’ could have many similarities with Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘FAN’.

‘Online Gurukul’ has been coordinated by Kittu Saluja who last directed the Rahul Bose starrer ‘Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli’.

When reached for a comment, Kittu affirmed the news saying, “Yes, I am doing my next film with Baba Ram Rahim. It’s called ‘Online Gurukul’ which depicts the story of an teacher and his student and Baba will play both characters. The story too has been composed by him and assuming double role was again his thought. The teacher’s follower is not a Baba look-alike, but a younger version of him .”
An extensive part of the film was shot in the course of  four months in Sirsa, Punjab where the Dera Sacha Sauda is located. Kittu said, “The film has overwhelming VFX content, so we have reserved Madhu Sudan who has done VFX for Lord Of The Rings and Spiderman arrangement. Ganesh Acharya has done the choreography and Abbas ali Moghul has outlined the activity.”

The film additionally stars Ram Rahim’s sister Anupreet who has a major  part in it. As of now the producers are going for a release one year from now. “The VFX will take a year to be finished. I am likewise in chats with Baba to direct Warrior and MSG 3,” Kittu concluded.

Forbes: Don't Worry, Here's Proof That Shah Rukh Khan Is Still The World's Biggest Movie Star

As Shah Rukh Khan’s fans exited the theaters after seeing his newly released drama Fan this weekend, many wondered, “Where was the song? Where was the trademark SRK dance? Where was the fun?”

Many may have even pondered such deeper questions as “Is his career moving in a darker direction? Will Salman Khan overtake him as the world’s box office king? Has he already?”

Such angst is understandable. Fan opened well, but failed to top the opening day gross of any of SRK’s prior three movies. And the film’s somber tone and muddied ending constituted a stark departure from the megastar’s prior oeuvre. It’s enough to make a faithful follower worry that the king’s powers may be in decline.

To that I say, relax. Take a deep breath. I’m here to assure you that whether or not Fan ultimately proves to be another gem in King Khan’s crown, he is most assuredly still the pharaoh of film, the monarch of the multiplex, the sultan of the silver screen.

And I can offer empirical proof.

Herein follows a mountain of evidence that, taken together, clearly demonstrates that India’s SRK continues to reign supreme as a megastar among megastars.
A defining measure of a ruler is the number of loyal subjects he commands. SRK’s Twitter following is undeniably kingly in size.
And of course in order to reign as box office king, a leader needs box office hits. Here King Khan is challenged by other pretenders to the throne, most notably India’s two other megastar Khans, but still he holds his own.
There are those who are not swayed by big numbers alone, preferring to base their beliefs instead on less tangible factors. And I can offer that sort of proof as well. Let’s start with retinues. Every king has his royal retinue, and SRK’s is as substantial as one would expect.
Kings are traditionally paid tribute for their greatness. In Hollywood, only major stars are granted “above the title” billing. But no one other than SRK, to my knowledge, has had their own movie actually named for them, in the movie title. To wit:
And like any good ruler, Shah Rukh Khan is a model of good conduct. In his personal life, he embodies the very idea of India. He is a proud Muslim, married to a proud Hindu. He is well educated, as are his children. His fandom extends well beyond India’s borders and is said to include such international luminaries as Shakira, Barack Obama, Zayn Malik, and Snoop Dogg.
Finally, a good king inspires devotion that extends far beyond the box office and into the spiritual lives of his subjects. In a country that worships film stars as deities, Khan is the biggest and most revered figure in the pantheon. During the Eid festival, which marks the end of Ramadan, his millions of Muslim fans have been known to watch his latest blockbuster up to three times a day in a quasi-religious celebratory ritual. Indian film critic Anupama Chopra has described SRK as a “Modern-day god; on the streets in India, his posters are sold alongside those of religious deities. Temples have been erected in his name.”

Need I say more? If that’s not a king, I don’t know what is.
